Meeting started promptly at 7:00 pm. Closed at 8:10pm

1. Review of Minutes

Brian confirmed a quorum was present and distributed draft copies of the minutes from the December 1st, 2010. A motion to approve the minutes with minor amendments was made & seconded. Minutes were held to a vote and all approved.

Brian reminded everyone that at the next meeting election of the UJNA executive will take place.

2. Treasurers Report

Brian provided update on the financial position of the UNJA. The account balance as of December 31st, 2010 was $1,745.27.

Pending expenses are the 2010 & 2011 web hosting and domain registration.

3. Review of Action Items

  • Flier Delivery:   Executive to follow-up on design and print costs.

o No Update

  • Linden Street:   Follow-up with new councillor in January to request they bring a motion to Community Council and direct staff to report on allowing two-way traffic

 Letter to be sent to Melissa Wong, Constituency Assistant City Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam

4. Police Update

51 Division has a new Staff Sergeant – Rudy Pasini. Sgt Pasini requested this position and all are pleased.

A discussion was held to discuss current top thee policing concerns in the area. Two were identified

  • Transvestite activity at Homewood & Wellesley
  • Loitering in the ally between Linden & Selby, parallel to Huntley St

There is a need for street captain in our area, those interested should contact ujnwatch@hotmail.com

5. Street Parking – Pay & Display Parking Meters

A discussion was held on the parking in the immediate area. There were mixed feelings on accessibility of obtaining a street parking permits and the Pay & Display meters.

Street Parking

View 1:   Due to lack of parking, residents in apartment and condominium should not be allowed to gain street access parking and the building should be self sufficient.

View 2:   Residents in the area should have equal opportunity to street parking permits

City Transportation staff will issue street parking permits at tiered rates.

No access to on-site parking for resident’s first vehicle:  $13.15/month plus HST

No access to on-site parking for resident’s second and any subsequent vehicles:  $32.87/month plus HST

Resident does have access to on-site parking (permit is for convenience):  $46.02/month plus HST

Pay & Display

Street in the immediate area have varying permitted parking times. Members had mix feeling on what times should of the day should be for a fee, free and permit only.

ACTION:   Brian to follow-up with Kristyn Wong-Tam office to arrange Parking Staff representation at an upcoming meeting to further discuss the issue.

6. Community Update

  1. Melissa Wong Constituency Assistant City Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam will be attending our meeting when possible
  2. Casey House – Talks for the new facility have begun with the city, no Development Application has been submitted
  3. North St. James development updates are available at http://www.toronto.ca/planning/stjamestown.htm. The next Community Consultation will be held in the Spring 2011.

  5. 15 Huntley – Construction to begin in spring 2011. http://www.toronto.ca/planning/15_huntley.htm
  6. James Cooper Mansion – Occupancy begins February 15, 2011. Art work installation to be completed mid January.
  7. Parking – Pay and Display Parking in the area has been installed. Next UJNA meeting will include an agenda item to discussion residence feedback.
  8. Historical District Designation – Further investigation will be done to review viability of naming our community a historical district.
