Meeting at Verve, 120 Homewood

1. Review and approval of minutes from April 6th, 2011

Brian Bagley confirmed that a quorum was present 14 members plus guests that included Kristyn Wong-Tam and representation from Glen Murray’s office. Copies of the April 6th meeting were distributed. A motion was made to approve the April 6th minutes, this was seconded with a vote that followed, all were in favour.

2. Treasurer’s Report

Bank balance as of March 31, 2011 was $1508.53

3. Review of Action Items from last meeting

Flier Delivery:   Brian to follow-up on design and print costs ( No Update)

Linden Street:   Request made to have a traffic study completed to investigate two-way traffic along the first few hundred feed of Linden off Sherboune

4. Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (15 Huntley) update:

  • Shoring and excavation underway
  • Crane erected August 2011
  • Concrete Structure complete Spring 2012
  • Building closed in and water tight Summer 2012
  • Construction completed Winter 2013
  • ETFO moved in and Grand Opening Spring 2013

5. Casey House update from Stephanie Karapita, Chief Executive Office

The proposal is to expand the Casey House facility between 571 Jarvis and 119 Isabella. 571 Jarvis (commonly referred to as the Grey Lady) will receive extensive restoration; approximately $7 million dollars will be spent on the restoration of the building. The property at 119 Isabella is slated for demolition. The planned new facility is a three story building with a section along jarvis that will stand 5 stories.

Thursday July 7, 2011 is tentatively booked as the Councillor’s Community Consolation date.

8. Open Items with the City

  • Invitation to attend Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam, Ward 27, and Glen Murray, MPP Toronto Centre community planning meeting on June 16th, @ 7:30 at 519 Church Street.
  • We like to have the traffic flow on Linder Street reviewed for the viability of 2 way traffic on the first 75 meters of Linden Street, west of Sherboune. With the new James Cooper Mansion development, all residential and commercial traffic entering the building is required to route through the neighbourhood streets of Selby & Huntley to gain access to the building
    • A traffic study has been requested to look at this issue
  • Re the light planned for Sherbourne and Earl Street,  I was advised that Transportation Services has studied the area and determined that there is not enough car volume to warrant a traffic light here.    Can you provide me with more background on the reason for this request? There is a study of the area being completed for the apartment buildings on the east side of Sherbourne.  I’ve spoken with Councillor McConnell’s office and they would be willing to ask for a traffic study of this area to look at the possibility of installing a light in front of their building.

4. Kristyn Wong-Tam’s feedback on the Homewood Wellesley sex trade activity

A community meeting with residents on Homewood and Maitland Place is scheduled for April 14th and if there is still support, Councillor Wong-Tam will move the motion to install a turn prohibition from southbound traffic coming from Wellesley Street.

5. Follow up on a request was put forward in February 2010 to the transportation department for an installation of red light camera on north bound Jarvis at Isabella.

A request has been issued to look at the possibility of a red light camera

6. Update if there are further plans for the Jarvis Street Redevelopment

We are waiting to hear back about the status of the Jarvis Street Re-development.

7. Enforce restricted commercial garbage pickup times at Rogers and Greenwin Plaza

We have submitted a request for Municipal Licensing & Standards to monitor the garbage pick-up times.

8. Wellesley Community Centre

Both Councillors (including Pam McConnell) are still trying to raise funds for the pool. There are some Section 37 funds from developments that are dedicated to this pool, but there still is not enough to begin construction.
